Norfolk Fire Group understands the ever-present risk of fire in domestic and commercial buildings and the importance of complying with fire safety legislation. Protecting your business premises and your employees from the prospect of fire is essential.
Under the terms of The Regularity Reform (Fire Safety Order 2005), it is the duty of every employer to carry out a fire risk assessment of the workplace. Not only that, but it’s also the law for businesses in the United Kingdom! Ensuring your premises are fitted with the right commercial fire alarm system and adequate fire detection is one step towards mitigating the risk of fire.
Employers must provide and maintain the precautions against fire that are necessary to safeguard those who use their workplace by nominating people to undertake specific roles as required by the emergency plan and consulting their employees where people may be given specific roles and proposals for improving fire safety. They must inform other employers who have workplaces in the same building of any significant risks they find that might affect their employees and cooperate with them as necessary.
Most workplaces are covered by the fire regulations. This puts responsibility on employers to make sure that you and others are safe in the workplace.
Norfolk Fire Group provides fire alarm monitoring services, ensuring you, your employees, and business premises are monitored 24/7, giving you peace of mind.
Your fire alarm system will be professionally installed by us and monitored by a dedicated alarm monitoring centre (EMCS), which has highly trained monitoring centre operatives.
Before a fire alarm system can be designed, the main objectives of the system are normally determined by a fire risk assessment and should be provided as part of the fire system specification.
M FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS:
Fire alarm systems under this category are manual fire alarm systems, where the alarm needs to be manually activated. For example, a person operating a manual call point (break glass unit).
L FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS (life protection):
L1: automatic detection in all areas.
L2: automatic detection as defined in L3 as well as high-risk hazardous areas.
L3: automatic detection installed on escape routes and in rooms opening onto escape routes.
L4: automatic detection within escape routes only.
L5: installed in a building with a specific risk (area of high risk).
P FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS (purely for the protection of property):
P1: covering the entire building.
P2: only covers specific high-risk areas.
There are two main types of domestic fire alarm systems.
1. Standalone alarms: These are individual units that are installed in various areas of the house. They are usually battery operated and emit a loud sound if they detect smoke or fire.
2. Hard-wired systems: These are types of systems that are connected to the building’s electrical supply and feature smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detectors linked together with alarm sounders that will activate throughout the property if fire is detected.
In addition to the basic types of systems described above, there are several other types of alarms and detectors that can be added to the system to provide increased protection. For example, heat detectors can be placed in places where smoke detectors may not be suitable, such as kitchens where the steam of burnt toast can trigger a false alarm.
Its important to make sure that your fire alarm system is appropriately installed and maintained by a qualified technician. Regular testing and servicing of your alarms will help ensure that they are functioning correctly and provide adequate warning to you and your family in the event of a fire.
For all domestic fire alarm systems, Norfolk Fire Group only uses Aico and FireAngel products.
