The Challenge
Oakleigh House is a Grade II listed country house in Norfolk used for private functions and events. The building was only protected by basic wireless domestic smoke detectors that needed replacing, and traditional cabling and surface-mounted conduit would have caused unacceptable damage to the historic fabric and interior finishes — making a conventional wired system unsuitable for this heritage property. The client also needed the building to be protected around the clock, including during unoccupied periods between functions and events.
Our Solution
Norfolk Fire Group specified and installed a wireless addressable fire alarm system throughout Oakleigh House. The wireless system eliminated the need for invasive cable runs, preserving the listed character of the building entirely. Wireless detection devices with integrated sounders were installed in all escape routes and all other rooms throughout the house, including bedrooms, ensuring a clear audible warning is given everywhere in the building the moment a fire event is detected. Wireless manual call points were also fitted at all final exits and escape route locations, allowing occupants to raise the alarm manually from anywhere in the building. The entire system reports to a single addressable control panel, and was combined with remote monitoring — covering both any fire events and any faults on the system — so that a professional response is triggered immediately whether the alarm activates or a device goes into fault, giving the house 24/7 protection during events and through unoccupied periods.
The Outcome

Norfolk Fire Group were contracted to replace the faulty Ziton system and selected the Advanced Go+ addressable fire alarm system as the replacement platform. We carried out the full design, installation and commissioning of the new system throughout the building, using the Advanced Go+ addressable panel with Apollo protocol detection to provide precise device-level identification across all areas of the facility. The new system was designed and installed to BS 5839-1:2025, with a tailored cause-and-effect programme and detection zoning matched to the building's use. The Marquis of Layham is a historic pub and restaurant with letting rooms above, operating as a licensed premises with sleeping risk. The client needed a specialist contractor to take on the design responsibility for a larger, fully addressable system and — critically — to integrate the new installation seamlessly with their existing system, rather than ripping out and starting again.
Our Solution
Norfolk Fire Group took on the design responsibility and installed a two loop addressable fire alarm system throughout the premises. The two-loop addressable panel provided the device capacity and zoning flexibility needed to cover the public bar, restaurant, commercial kitchen, cellar, guest letting rooms and escape routes from a single control point. The new system was then integrated with the client's existing system, providing seamless system integration so that the existing and new detection worked together as one unified, compliant fire alarm network rather than two separate systems.

Our IFSM qualified assessor carried out a full PAS 79-1:2020 commercial fire risk assessment covering all areas of the hotel — bedrooms, kitchen, bar, reception, back-of-house storage, and external areas. The assessment identified 12 significant findings, prioritised into immediate, short-term, and longer-term actions.

The Challenge
A mid-Norfolk care home required a full fire door survey following a Fire Authority inspection that identified concerns about fire door maintenance. The building had 57 fire doors of various ages and specifications.
Our Solution
Our UKFDT Approved Inspector carried out a comprehensive fire door survey of all 57 fire doors, producing a photographic inspection report for each door covering gap measurements, intumescent seal condition, self-closer function, glazing, signage, and overall compliance rating. 14 doors required immediate remediation, 9 required scheduled replacement.
The Outcome
Full photographic inspection report delivered within 5 working days. Remediation work completed within 3 weeks. A follow-up re-inspection confirmed all doors now compliant. The care home was able to demonstrate compliance to the Fire Authority at their follow-up visit.
A newly opened Norwich restaurant had been identified during their fire risk assessment as having inadequate emergency lighting along escape routes and at the rear exit. The existing fittings were non-maintained and not providing sufficient illumination across the full width of escape routes as required by BS EN 1838:2024.
Our Solution
We designed a risk-based emergency lighting scheme to BS 5266-1:2025, mapping all escape routes and identifying the required lux levels and fitting positions. We installed maintained LED emergency bulkheads and illuminated exit signs, connected to the mains supply with individual 3-hour battery backup. A test key switch was installed for staff monthly flick tests.
The Outcome
Full BS 5266-1:2025 installation certificate issued. The restaurant passed their follow-up fire risk assessment without any emergency lighting findings. Monthly test log set up for staff. Annual full-duration test booked.

Multi-Site Fire Alarm Maintenance Contract — Norfolk
The Challenge
A Norfolk property management company with 8 commercial properties across the county had multiple different fire alarm maintenance contractors — leading to inconsistent service quality, poor documentation, and difficulty managing compliance records.
Our Solution
We consolidated all 8 sites onto a single structured maintenance contract, carrying out initial condition surveys on each system, updating zone charts and as-installed drawings, and establishing a standardised bi-annual service schedule. All sites were brought into BS 5839-1:2025 compliance with battery replacement schedules documented.
The Outcome
All 8 sites now on a single coordinated maintenance schedule. Annual compliance summary report provided covering all sites. One point of contact for all fire alarm matters. Significant improvement in documentation and compliance across the portfolio.
